一九七二年，《新莊報導》前身《傳播者》創刊。《傳播者》為第一屆校友因為興趣而創辦的班刊，後轉型為系刊，報導校系、傳播界及文教界的新聞。
兩年後，《傳播者》納入課程，學校將其定位為實習校刊。
以校刊的型態經營了若干年，參與其中的同學深深體會到，《傳播者》服務的對象實在有限，於是在一九八五年，《傳播者》將報導層面擴大成新莊地區，並在兩年後易名為《新莊報導》，向政府登記為社區雜誌。
